Since moving to Houston over two years ago, I have noticed one thing.  Don’t talk trash about the Texans!  Despite the terrible season the Texans had this year, there are definitely some die-hard fans down here.

Damond and Laura Matthews are two such fans.  This wonderful couple has been Houston Texans fans since the franchise was birthed back in 2002 as an expansion team.  Before their recent wedding, these high school sweethearts donned their game-day jerseys and displayed the love for each other as well as the Texans.

Here I try to capture that love on canvas.

I gather my materials.

Do a quick mock sketch on paper.

Mock up another quick sketch on the canvas.

Start to give the sketch a thin wash in acrylic paint.

Work in the colors.

Start working in slight facial features.

More detail.

I work in deeper blues into his jersey and add more color to the back ground.  I also start to focus on her hair.

After adding final details, I layer a coat of modge podge on the canvas to give the painting a protective shine.

Finished Product!
